Holy Basil (tulsi)

Also known as tulsi basil, sacred basil, or Queen of The Herbs, is considered sacred in India.

The herb, which is also part of the mint family, can be used fresh or dried and you can use both the leaves and flowers. The “tropical tulsi” varieties are rama, krishna and amrita. All holy basils have a clove taste and smell due to eugenol (an antiseptic). All holy basils have varying amounts of rosmarinic acid which may help lower anxiety.

In hindu methology, holy basil is considered to be the reincarnation of the tulsi goddess who was considered the goddess of protection.

Holy basil may be helpful with chronic stress with anxiety and/or depression, brain fog, memory, lowering cholesterol, regulating blood glucose, indigestion, headaches, fevers, colds, kidney stones, cough, sore throats, dental health, decreases inflammation caused by insect stings and may boost immunity by increasing antibodies and increasing the formation of helper t cells.
